About Brenham, TX

Brenham is the county seat of Washington County in east-central Texas. US 290, SH 105, SH 36, FM 389 and FM 577 all pass through town, and US 290 runs on through Cypress toward Houston. It is the home of Blue Bell Creameries and of what it calls the World's Largest BBQ Pit on US 290 West.

German settlers arrived here as early as 1846, and the town took its name in 1843 from a local physician, Richard Fox Brenham. It sits higher than the coast, at about 312 feet, and gets around 48 inches of rain a year. Summers can turn very hot, with a record high of 113 degrees, which is hard on tires that spend their days on long highway runs.
